Why Was Yugoslavia Different?

Josip Broz Tito led communist Yugoslavia but refused to obey Stalin completely.

This angered Stalin because he expected communist countries to follow Soviet control.

Tito’s Split with Stalin

In 1948:

  • Yugoslavia was expelled from Cominform
  • Stalin tried to isolate Tito
  • Tito remained communist but independent from Moscow

This showed that Soviet control over Eastern Europe was not complete.
