What Was Cominform?

Cominform was an organisation created by Stalin in 1947 to strengthen Soviet control over communist countries.

The name stands for “Communist Information Bureau”.

Purpose of Cominform

Cominform aimed to:

  • Increase Soviet control over Eastern Europe
  • Spread communist ideas
  • Coordinate communist governments
  • Ensure loyalty to Stalin

Communist countries were expected to follow Soviet policies closely.
