Pressure for Change in Eastern Europe

By the 1960s, many people living in communist Eastern Europe were becoming unhappy with Soviet control.

Problems included:

  • Lack of political freedom
  • Economic difficulties
  • Government censorship
  • Soviet interference in national affairs

In 1968, Czechoslovakia attempted to introduce reforms that would create a less strict form of communism.

This movement became known as the Prague Spring.
