Private: The Norman Conquest, 1066

Life for Peasants

For most peasants, daily life continued much as before.

People still:

  • Farmed the land
  • Paid rents
  • Worked for local lords

However, many now served Norman landowners rather than English ones.

New Burdens

Some people faced:

  • Higher taxes
  • Castle building work
  • Stricter control
  • New laws

The conquest brought benefits for some but hardship for others.
