Rebellions Across England
Between 1067 and 1070, several rebellions broke out.
These rebellions happened in different parts of England:
- Kent
- Exeter
- Northumbria
- Mercia
- East Anglia
Some rebellions were small and quickly defeated.
Others became serious threats.
Why Was the North Difficult to Control?
Northern England was far from London.
The north also had a history of Viking influence and independence.
Many northern nobles disliked Norman rule.
This made the north dangerous for William.
