Norman Bishops and Archbishops

William believed the Church needed reform.

Many English bishops were removed and replaced by Norman churchmen.

This brought the English Church closer to developments in Europe.

New Churches and Cathedrals

The Normans built impressive stone churches and cathedrals.

These buildings were much larger than many Anglo-Saxon churches.

Examples include:

  • Durham Cathedral
  • Canterbury Cathedral

Norman architecture demonstrated the wealth and power of the Church.
