Franz von Papen
Franz von Papen became Chancellor in June 1932.
His government:
- Had little support in the Reichstag
- Relied heavily on Hindenburg’s emergency powers
- Failed to control rising extremism
He later believed he could control Hitler by bringing him into government.
Kurt von Schleicher
Kurt von Schleicher replaced Papen briefly in December 1932.
His strategy:
- Tried to split the Nazi Party
- Attempted to build a coalition across parties
- Failed to gain enough support
His failure created the final political crisis.
