One of the Nazis’ main priorities was reducing unemployment.
Key measures included:
- Public works schemes such as building roads (Autobahns), railways, and housing
- Creation of jobs in construction and infrastructure
- The National Labour Service (RAD), which provided work in farming, forestry, and building projects
- Exclusion of women and Jews from employment statistics artificially lowered unemployment figures
Impact:
- Unemployment fell dramatically from around 6 million (1933) to under 1 million by 1939
- Many Germans felt economic recovery and greater stability
- However, wages were controlled and workers had little freedom
